United Through Reading

I have had the opportunity to work first hand with United Through Reading. My first encounter was when I was a FRSA in the 82nd, I got the program set up and approved by my commander for them to use down range. It was successful, they Chaplain got to video tape the soldier's reading books to their kids, and then send the DVD and book home to the child, it was a SUCCESSFUL program. We even had a book drive and received several books to send down range. I recommend everyone trying this program out when their loved ones are not at home.

The United Through Reading Military Program helps ease the stress of separation for military families by having deployed parents read children's books aloud via DVD for their child to watch at home. This powerful program is available to all deploying military units and at select USO locations. It provides parents a chance to make powerful and lasting connections with their children and parent from afar. The program is sponsored through participating commands/units and hosted at select USO centers.
