Special Press event with the White House April 30...yours truly will be there, live in person!!!
I recently received an email from Circle of Moms by POPSUGAR, reaching out for military mom bloggers to attend this exclusive invitation to the White house. I AM SO GLAD I LIVE in NOVA and work in DC….WOO HOOO, I am taking annual leave tomorrow so I can attend the event. YOU Can read about that here
Myself and two other bloggers have been selected as a military spouse blogger to participate in the Joining Forces Event. President Obama, Vice President Biden, First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden will make a significant employment announcement for veterans and military spouses. So from the press release I understand that Joining Forces is building momentum within the private sector to hire and train veterans and military spouses. The speaking program on Tuesday will take place in the East Room and will begin at 11:15AM ET.
The President, Vice President, First Lady, and Dr. Biden have noted that with the war in Iraq over and the war in Afghanistan drawing to a close, more than one million service members are projected to leave the military in the next several years.
You know I am kind of nervous about that too…that’s a HUGE number…however what can I say, what can I do?
I am really scared about the Enlisted Points system and how they have changed the points to get promoted. I have had friends who have gotten out the Army because the points are too high, and while my husband has been deployed, he really hasn’t had the time to dedicate to a 4 year degree, he has his Associate’s but what is that these days NOTHING…that can’t prepare you for the real world and it is extremely competitive and let’s face it we aren’t old but we aren’t in our 20’s anymore. We are competing with 20+ people who are fresh out of college and who have networked, where as someone who is always focused on their privates…
SO while I will definitely blog about this MORE tomorrow…and maybe I can take some pictures…who knows…this is like my professional blogging tomorrow.
For all of you who are intested the event will also be live streamed at http://www.whitehouse.gov//live.
