Bank of America Asks Consumers to Join Them in Expressing Thanks to Military Service Members and Veterans This Fall

Bank of America has launched a campaign that could raise up to $250,000 for Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). It is called “Express Your Thanks,” the broad-ranging campaign asks consumers, employees and sports fans to make simple gestures of gratitude that will each generate a $1 donation from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation*. “Express Your Thanks” launched on September 11 and will continue until Veterans Day.

The centerpiece of the campaign is a website that will collect images and messages of thanks to service members and veterans. To participate, individuals can take a photo or write a message and share it on www.bankofamerica.com/troopthanks. Alternatively, they can upload a picture via Instagram or Twitter and tag it with #troopthanks. The images uploaded to the website will be turned into a patriotic digital mosaic.
“We are always looking to build on our 90-year history of support for the military, through philanthropic endeavors, recruitment and hiring practices, or specialized banking services,” said Jeff Cathey, senior military affairs executive at Bank of America. “The programs we are putting in place this fall allow our customers and employees, or anyone for that matter, to deliver heartfelt messages of thanks and meaningfully support service members and veterans through WWP.”

In support of the 2012 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, which will take place on October 7, the company is encouraging Chicagoans to visit any of the city’s 172 Bank of America banking centers to sign water bottles with words of thanks to members of the military, past and present. These bottles will be collected and used to create a patriotic mosaic at the marathon’s Health and Fitness Expo at McCormick Place Convention Center October 5-6. The mosaic will also be on display in a special “Military Mile” portion of the race course. This critical section at the tail end of the 26.2-mile course will be decorated in honor of those who serve.

At the Bank of America 500, motorsports fans will be invited to sign flags during race weekend, and those flags will be converted into a mosaic that will be displayed during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on the night of Saturday, October 13.

For each of these actions – uploading images and words of thanks to www.bankofamerica.com/troopthanks, tagging Instagram or Twitter pictures with #troopthanks, signing water bottles and/or flags – the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will donate $1 to support economic empowerment programs run by WWP*. This includes Warriors to Work, which helps Wounded Warriors transition back into the civilian workforce by providing career counseling services and job placement assistance.

“America’s Wounded Warriors, service members and veterans are true heroes, and it’s important for all of us to support them in any way we can,” said Adam Silva, chief development officer, WWP. “Even a small gesture, such as a photo featuring an expression of thanks or a few words of gratitude, can be significant. We appreciate Bank of America’s ongoing partnership, and look forward to putting their contribution to good use.”

With a history of supporting active military members, veterans, and their families dating back more than 90 years, Bank of America is proud to stand behind those who serve. Nearly 6,000 military service members and veterans work for the company, which last year was named to G.I. Jobs magazine’s list of military-friendly employers, and has been included in Military Times EDGE magazine’s “Best for Vets” list for three straight years. The company also offers specialized mortgage support and programs for military customers and their families, including a dedicated servicing unit. Through partnerships with nonprofit organizations, Bank of America has also donated homes to injured service members or families who have lost an active-duty loved one.
