Our 4th of July 2011 at Ft Bragg

I am not sure where we will be in 2012, so make every year count! We have been here at Fort Bragg since 2006 and every year Fort Bragg has a great line up of things for families to do on post. Each year they seem to out-do themselves. This year they had the 82nd Chorus (when I hear these men sing, I get goose bumps that is one thing in life you need to do is hear the 82nd All American Chorus), the 82nd AB Parachute Jump Team, the Charlie Daniels Band, Little Big Town Band, and the most waited event of all FIREWORKS.

The day was awesome; our favorite parts were the parachute team and the chorus. Let me describe the day. It started at around 10am we went to the new Veteran’s Memorial Park that opened here in Fayetteville. I think this was the best place in NC to place this Memorial Park which is the perfect tribute to our heroes. If you are ever in the Fort Bragg area stop by, it’s a great historical experience. However the heat was unbearable all day long in the 90's plus humidity, very few clouds in the sky until around 7pm. We arrived around 6pm and left the main post field around 8 so we could get to our spot to watch the fireworks. The tall pine trees offered no shade however we still enjoyed ourselves. After a few claps of thunder, the officials moved the fireworks up an hour due to threats of thunderstorms and sharp lightening in the area. Let me just say the fireworks were unbelievable, they were so beautiful. I couldn't help but think of the part of National Anthem "Bombs Bursting in Air". My kids loved the ones with smiley faces and stars. I preferred the starbursts. It lasted about 25 minutes, and the wait to get off post wasn’t so bad because we were all talking about our favorite fireworks.

Being an Army Spouse, Independence Day means a lot more to me now than when I was a child. I have seen my husband deploy and train up for missions around this holiday. I always get an overwhelming since of pride when I see the fireworks and hear the national anthem played. The 4th of July is the day to celebrate our nation, and because I love this Country, I am glad I am an American, and I celebrate it proudly!

  1. Parachute team members floating in the sky, followed by fireworks sounds like the makings of a memorable Fourth of July! Happy Independence Day!
