2011 White House Easter Egg Roll

This year was so much better for us than last year. However it was really HOT and humid! So I finally got tickets, at the last minute, but still got them, and I could only take the kids, I was feeling really sad. My mom always goes with us to participate in the events, but they couldn't get enough tickets. So she did drive up there with us to go and see DC. So we get there at 4am, find a parking space on the street, YEAH! So we got to dress the kids in the car, LOL, instead of on the street like last year. We waited in the car, we were all so excited! Let me tell you parking in the garages were $12 per hour and $40 at the Marriott. So needless to say we parked on the street. I went to meet the ladies from Blue Star Families at the Starbucks, of COURSE I would be at the wrong Starbucks there were two, who knew there would be two on the SAME BLOCK. So after a text message, we hurry down there. So sadly we said good bye to my mom, she looked so sad, so we hurry to the White House, I wanted to tell the ladies that we should have gotten in line by at least 6, from last year's experience but I didn't want to offend anyone.
So we walk like two blocks, and get in line. WOW this was so much better than last year, we waited like 10 minutes, and then got to get our tickets scanned, then we walked to the secret service to get checked. We So we hurriedly get into line, which was moving very quickly, by now it was 7:00am. So we were lucky to be in the 5th lane, which kinda snaked around. SO MUCH BETTER THAN LAST YEAR. This was organized better inside (let me remind you that last year it was chaos, everyone trying to squeeze through the gate, not obeying personal space. So that was the rough part, it was so HUMID, all my straight hair CURLED UP.all passed with flying colors, and plus I took a smaller purse. I got several emails saying that we needed to dress in our Sunday best, so I had previously bought my son his Easter outfit, so I had to get the girls theirs, I love to match them in the same dress, I don't know why but they look so CUTE! Ok back to the story, so since we had to be there at 6:45am my kids didn't get to eat, and we couldn't take any snacks or drinks into the White House. So my son decides he was having a break down! So for 30 minutes he pitched a boogy woogy of a fit. First he was like take the bracelet off (everyone had to have a bracelet to get in) so finally took it off, then he was like I'm hungry, and they had juice to hand out. However Cat told me it tasted nasty, so I was like well Mrs. Obama has that campaign about getting healthy! So anyway around 8:15 we started to move, and we FINALLY MADE it past the first GATE! YAHOO, we are moving on up now! LOL so it was a constant flow, and there were not that many people on the grounds. Well I wanted to see the White House, so we did the Easter Egg Roll, and got our pics in front of the White House.

Well we didn't even wait 2 min before it was our turn, and let me say the KIDS HAD FUN, Brandon forgot all about his hunger until after he smacked the egg down the yard. WOW so we went and got their faces painted, then we went back and walked around, went and he was like I AM HUNGRY, so they had a WH farmers market, and the kids got  1 apple and 1 pear, so Brandon usually wants his apple peeled. However he ate it with the skin, and loved it! So that pacified him for a moment. Then the girls wanted to do the Easter Egg Hunt, so we got in line, and they went and found eggs. Brandon said he wanted to eat his apple. So we did more activities and then around 9am we decided we had enough b/c now it was super crowded. So we exited the premises, and got our wooden Egg!

WE HAD A BLAST! I AM SO EXCITED! I really enjoyed myself, I think it was like at least 5,000 people in there while we were there, it was crowded and I am so blessed we had the 6:30am time slot b/c I know I would have melted at a later time!

  1. How lucky that you got the early morning time slot for the White House Easter Egg event! I took my daughter last year, and we waited for at least an hour in the heat to get in because we had a late afternoon time slot. The wait, of course, ended up being worth it because we certainly had a blast! But to have fun and not have to wait in the heat for it would have been better. :)
